Music I Currently Enjoy

I’ve been a fan of music for as long as I can remember, from the young days of playing 33 1/3 records on my Mickey Mouse record player to the 11,000 plus mp3’s on my hard drive these days, the styles and genres are varied, but you can guarantee if it sounds good I have either heard it or I have it…

These days I am currently cranking up Stone Sour – Come What(ever) May, let me tell you this CD has to be one of the best, if not the best hard rocking compilations of songs I have ever heard.  Let it be no secret I have always enjoyed listening to Corey Taylor.  To me, there aren’t many artists who can come close to the passion you can feel when he is in action.  The combination of singing/ screaming hasn’t been something I really cared for, but for some reason it touches a nerve with me and sometimes it will bring me to the edge of tears on some songs.

In a totally different genre I have been enjoying some Massive Attack, one of my favorite songs is protection.  I especially enjoy the lyrics and if you listen to the remixed versions I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  This group has been around a while, sometimes they have Tricky sing on some of their songs, he is another great artist I like.

Right now, those 2 are at the top of my list, like I said before, my tastes vary, but I am definitely an old school metal head, some old D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, or Anthrax are always welcome.

In a way I feel I have become spoiled with the internet and how easily I can find new music, it’s a little scary though how much information is out there just to be found.

All I can say is keep on jamming.

Black Hole Sun

In my eyes, indisposed
In disguise as no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
‘Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I’ll hear you scream againBlack hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come

Stuttering, cold and damp
Steal the warm wind tired friend
Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes
In my shoes, a walking sleep
And my youth I pray to keep
Heaven send Hell away
No one sings like you anymore

Hang my head, drown my fear
Till you all just disappear

Right Where it Belongs…

See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you’re on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it’s all, right where it belongs

What if everything around you,
Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the worlds inside of your head,
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your Gods, all the living and the dead
And you’re really all alone?
You could live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can’t find the woods
While you’re hiding in the trees

What if everything around you,
Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself, find yourself afraid to see?

The Beatles

I have never really been a big fan of the beatles, but I can’t deny there are some songs they have done that get caught in my head sometimes.  Sometimes when I least expect it a song will start playing and it catches my ear and I can’t help but stop what I am doing and just listen…

Picture yourself on a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
and she’s gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
that grow so incredibly high

Newspaper taxies appear on the shores
Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
and you’re gone

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Picture yourself in a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, ah

Now, back to reality.  The melody of this song is very nice and the lyrics are fanciful.  Of course there are other beatles songs worth mentioning, but this one was on the radio and sparked some interest in me.

Benediction

Oh yeah, back again. Hope you’ve enjoyed our little excursions.  Tipping, toeing through the mind of a muthafucka that need’s a little fuckin stomping on.  Yeah, but don’t take it wrong, see we ain’t trying to tell you how to think, we’re just trying to get you to think.  And we ain’t trying to control nobody, we want the people (individually speaking) to be in control, to know who they are and what they want to be.  Yeah, and question authority, what the fuck but not for sake of argument, but because you took the time to analyze it and you found a better fuckin way, not just a fuckin excuse to complain.  And beware of people who try to use you as statistic to back their claims of power, that use you simply as a vehicle to get themselves where they want to, with no reference to your best interest except for their disclaimer that their best interest is your best interest.
And remember… cool is only 3 letters away from fool!
